So when we say average, we mean in a similar condition to other coins issued in 1922, and mint state meaning it is certified MS+ by one of the top coin grading companies. [?].
Additional Info: The 1922 (s) Peace dollar has the mint mark on the reverse/back of the coin. These coins along with the Morgans contain roughly .78 oz of pure silver.
The 1922-D Peace Dollar (Buy on eBay) is generally found well struck, but may often be encountered with die cracks. At the Denver Mint, the silver dollars were produced with higher striking pressure and the dies were often left in use after cracks had begun to develop. A 1922 silver dollar can be worth between $28 and $63, depending on the condition of the coin and whether or not the coin has been circulated. A coin is considered circulated if it has been used as tender. A coin is considered uncirculated if it has never been used and is in mint condition. Origin/Country: UNITED STATES: Design Description: SILVER DOLLARS - PEACE LIBERTY HEAD - ENCASED ADVERTISING: Item Description: $1 1922: Full Grade: Raw MS 0.
Numismatic vs Intrinsic Value:This coin in poor condition is still worth $4.95 more than the intrinsic value from silver content of $21.05, this coin is thus more valuable to a collector than to a silver bug. Coins worth more to a collectors may be a better long term investment. If the metal prices drop you will still have a coin that a numismatic would want to buy.
From December 26 through 31, 1921, a total of 1,006,473 Peace dollars were struck at the Philadelphia mint. The initial design was in high relief to accentuate the artistic details of this new silver dollar. Unfortunately, it was difficult to strike, and in 1922 the relief was lowered to make it easier to mint them. The US minted the 1922 silver dollar with no mint mark and also the 1922 D silver dollar and 1922 S silver dollar. The mint mark, when present, can be found on the reverse side of the coin, below the word 'ONE'. The 1922 silver dollar with no mint mark has two.
