Bingo has been around since the 1500s, so to say that it’s rooted in tradition would surely be an understatement! With this in mind, the game has further progressed over the years, finding its place online, as well as in brick-and-mortar locations across the country. People have truly gone Paddy Power online Bingo mad, so much so that there is even a whole host of world records attached to the game!

The largest game of Bingo

In 2006, the people of Columbia held a record-breaking Bingo game, full of a whopping 70,080 players! A far cry of the current scope of the game, which, due to the popularity of online gaming, usually only draws in a maximum of 50 punters at the local Bingo halls. To put that huge sum into perspective, it’s the equivalent of the entire population of Staffordshire, all sitting down to enjoy a game or two. The big game ended up dishing out over £250,000 worth of prizes across all the lucky winners – although best of luck shouting “house” over all those people!

The highest game of Bingo

Bingo is a versatile game; you can play it in several locations such as Bingo halls, online sites and even your own private parties, but what about whipping out your dibbers and dabbers nearly 18,000 feet above sea level? In 2009, 24 Gala Coral workers took on the challenge, trekking all the way up to Mount Everest’s base camp to play a couple of games of Bingo – all in the name of charity. In total, they raised a massive £100,000 for Sue Ryder Care.

Fastest ever Bingo Jackpot win

Some people like to believe in the luck of the beginner, but this is quite an unlikely occurrence in the majority of games. However, in 2010, Darryl Howe was blessed by lady luck, winning an impressive 18k haul within just 40 minutes of creating an online account at a popular casino site. Howe got a fifteen-number house in just 23 number calls – a 93 billion to one occurrence! Talk about beginner’s luck!

Longest balancing act & tallest tower

One of the most prolific Bingo record holders is a dedicated gentleman called Doug McManaman from Canada. He was granted the first of his world records in 2011, where he showcased his absolute love for the game by balancing a basket of bingo balls on a pole. Ever the showman, McManaman then went one better, balancing that pole on his chin. Amazingly, he held this position for an impressive 1 minute and 19.4 seconds, all whilst standing on his front porch for all to see.

In 2013, McManaman was at it again, taking his dedication to Bingo to the next level. The loyal fan managed to make the tallest tower out of bingo markers – the markers being from before the days where coloured pens were used, and instead small plastic discs would be placed over each number. The tower consisted of 82 little disc-markers, stacked on top of each other in a neat tower, holding their place for at least 10 seconds.

Sites

Unfortunately, neither of McManaman’s records are recognised by the Guinness Books of World Records, despite their undeniable impressiveness, due to their niche nature.
